GREEN BAY – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay women’s basketball team has added a familiar face to its coaching staff.
UWGB coach Kevin Borseth announced Wednesday the addition of former point guard Meghan Pingel, who played five seasons for the team from 2017 to 2022.
She will replace Carly Mohns on the staff. Mohns departed after two seasons to take a job outside athletics.
Pingel joins an experienced assistant group with the Phoenix.
It includes associate head coach Megan Vogel (11th season at UWGB) and assistant head coach Sarah Bronk (17 seasons).
“We are excited to have Meghan Pingel join the women’s basketball staff at Green Bay as an assistant coach,” Borseth said in a statement. “Meghan’s familiarity with our program should make for a smooth transition into her new role.
“Meghan understands what it takes to be successful as a student-athlete, both on and off the floor. She’ll be a great resource for our younger team members.”

Pingel became the first player in program history to spend six seasons with the Phoenix when she decided to return as a fifth-year senior in 2021-22. The former Lakeside Lutheran standout redshirted her first year in Green Bay, then played five seasons on the court after the NCAA granted college athletes an extra year of eligibility because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pingel started 70 games and appeared in 127, finishing with 468 career points, 340 assists, 277 rebounds and 130 assists. She started all 26 games in her final season while averaging 4.8 points and 3.7 assists. It included a career-high 22 points in a game against North Dakota State.
Several Phoenix players are familiar with Pingel. She has eight former teammates still on the team.
“Coming back to the program and community that means so much to me and my family, getting to learn from some of the best in the business, and helping coach a team I care deeply for is something I don’t take for granted,” Pingel said. “I’m honored by and excited for the opportunity.”
UWGB starts its season Oct. 25 with an exhibition game against UW-Stout at the Kress Center.
The Phoenix went 27-5 in 2022-23 and won the Horizon League regular-season championship for the first time in five years before losing to Cleveland State in the title game of the Horizon tournament.
It is seeking its first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2018.
