ISSF President Luciano Rossi met the new, and outgoing President of ASOIF in Birmingham yesterday for a historic edition of the ASOIF General Assembly, which is taking place as part of the the Sport Accord Convention.
President Rossi has used the opportunity of his sojourn in Birmingham to cement relationships with key members of the Olympic movement, ranging from IOC members, International Federation representatives and other stakeholders.
Elected yesterday, the new President of ASOIF Ingmar De Vos, from Belgium, is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and President of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). He was elected in an uncontested election, but will take office only on 1 January 2025, when the third term of incumbent President Francesco Ricci Bitti officially comes to an end.
During the General Assembly, Mr Ricci Bitti congratulated ISSF on its recent progress in governance and sporting matters, and warmly welcomed the new Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra di Giacomo, as member of the ASOIF Family.
The ASOIF General Assembly voted to accept new associate members to will be part of the sport programme at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and also heard detailed reports from the IOC, and from the organisation of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which officially opens in just over 100 days time.
The fact that Shooting Sports are firmly imbedded in the summer Olympic family was shown not only by the inclusion of a positive report for Paris 2024 but also the Youth Olympic Games, which takes place in Dakar in 2026.
