The Hurricanes have found Katie Meier’s successor.
Miami has hired Toledo coach Tricia Cullop as the program’s new women’s basketball coach, the school announced Friday. She takes over at UM after 16 seasons with the Rockets.
“We are excited to welcome Tricia to the University of Miami family,” Miami athletic director Dan Radakovich said in a press release. “Tricia is a proven winner who understands what it takes to build a championship culture, develop talent, mentor student-athletes, and generate excitement around a program.”
Cullop was an accomplished coach at Toledo, racking up a 353-169 record in her tenure. She won five MAC regular-season titles and earned trips to the NCAA Tournament twice. Cullop also won the WNIT in 2011. She was named the conference’s coach of the year six times, including the last three years.
Last season, Toledo went 28-6 and reached the third round of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament.
“This opportunity is a dream come true,” Cullop said in a press release. “Miami has a world-class education, winning tradition, competes in the one of top conferences in the country, and is in a beautiful location. While I will be eternally grateful for the opportunity given to me by the University of Toledo 16 years ago, I am also extremely excited for the challenge of what lies ahead.”
Cullop played at Purdue and previously coached at Evansville, where she went 123-110 in eight seasons.
Cullop takes over for Meier, who announced her retirement in March after 19 seasons at the helm in Coral Gables. Meier is the winningest coach in the program’s history, notching a 362-208 in her tenure. Meier is remaining with the program as an advisor in the athletic department.
