Nov. 29—Entering the two-day Kay Maynard State Farm Thanksgiving Classic 0-3, Lebanon emerged with a .500 record after sweeping three games at Campbell Brandon Gym/Hester Gibbs Court.
The Devilettes won twice Saturday, beating Brentwood 54-39 in the scheduled evening game. Earlier, they rallied after halftime to knock off Cannon County 57-49 as a replacement opponent.
Upperman was scheduled to play Cannon County but pulled out after the father of two of the Lady Bees players died after collapsing on the football field at Greeneville following the conclusion of UHS’ state semifinal win.
In both games, the third quarter was big for Lebanon.
The Devilettes sliced a 21-14 halftime hole to Brentwood to 32-29 before dominating the Lady Bruins 25-7 in the fourth.
Ta’Kisa Hastings hit two 3-pointers in leading Lebanon with 17 points.Ro Dowell notched nine points and nine rebounds. Tiara Spencer swished two triples and a free throw for her seven while Ellie Beth McDonald and Maggie Kelley each scored six, Macey Baker five and Naleiya Walker and Ashaunna Rowe two apiece.
Ella Ryan led the Lady Bruins with 11 points.
Cannon County expanded an 11-10 first-quarter lead to 27-20 by halftime before Lebanon controlled the third 24-10 to go up 44-37.
Hastings had two triples in leading Lebanon with 18 points while Kelley added 11 with 11 rebounds. McDonald drained a pair of triples on her way to nine. Walker had five assists, four deflections and four steals as she and Dowell each scored six points. Spender threw in three and Rowe and Baker two each.
The Devilettes were coming off their first win of the season Friday, a 56-48 verdict over Westmoreland.
The Lady Eagles scored the game’s first eight points and were on fire in the first quarter with five of their six 3-pointers, including two each by Gracie Leath and Skylar McMillan.
But Lebanon applied the press and went on a run to take the lead. Westmoreland’s sizzling shooting continued and the Lady Eagles reclaimed the lead 22-14 going into the second quarter.
But the Devilettes’ press took its toll in the second quarter as they held Westmoreland to five points in the period as Lebanon went into halftime ahead 30-27. It was 43-34 going into the fourth.
Freshman E.B. McDonald led Lebanon with 13 points. Tiara Spencer sank two of the Devilettes’ three triples as she and TK Hastings had 10 each. Naleiya Withrow Walker and Maggie Kelley each notched nine points and Tramaria Neal five.
Baye Dobbs led the Lady Eagles with 14 points while McMillan managed 12.
Lebanon hosted Gallatin last night and will entertain Mt. Juliet at 6 p.m. Friday at Brandon Gym/Gibbs Court.
Third-quarter rally lifts Watertown past GordonsvilleWATERTOWN — Thanks to a third-quarter rally, Watertown emerged with a 38-28 triumph over historic rival Gordonsville on Monday night.
The visiting Big Blue Tigers led 7-3 at the first-quarter break and 14-11 at halftime. But a 17-3 third period put the Lady Purple Tigers ahead 28-17 going into the fourth.
Macie Brejle led the Lady Purple Tigers with 12 points. Madison King connected on two 3-pointers on her way to eight while Molly Followell scored seven, Izzie Burns six, Kierah Maklary four and Jaleigh Robertson a free throw.
Makenzie Herron had 10 to lead Gordonsville.
Watertown will host DeKalb County at 6 p.m. Friday.
Lady Wildcats rally past Red Boiling Springs behind Fly’s double-double
Wilson Central’s girls rallied from a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit last Saturday morning to overtake Red Boiling Springs 67-64 in the Kay Maynard State Farm Thanksgiving Classic at Lebanon’s Campbell Brandon Gym/Hester Gibbs Court.
Red Boiling Springs broke a 46-46 tie entering the final stanza to build the lead before freshman Brylee Fly led the Lady Wildcat comeback. The Lady Bulldogs drew to within three points with 14 seconds to play and were fouled so they couldn’t add to their 14 3-pointers on the morning. They did have one last fullcourt heave which fell well short.
Fly finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Brooklyn Evert threw in three triples on her way to 14. Ellie Ramsey racked up two triples as part of her 10. Jadyn Cooper claimed 11 rebounds to go with seven points. Rita Planella and Kylie Moss each scored six points while Jaiden White tossed in two.
The Lady Wildcats led 17-13 at the first-quarter break and 39-27 at halftime before Red Boiling Springs controlled the third period 19-7.
Wilson Central traveled to Brentwood last night and will head to Green Hill on Friday.
