The Dutch archery federation has changed its name from Handboogsport Nederland to Royal Dutch Archery after an official ceremony was held on Friday 27 January 2023 at the national training centre of Papendal, home of the national archery teams.
The royal predicate was handed by the deputy King’s Commissioner of Gelderland Jan Markink and the mayor of Arnhem Ahmed Marcouch. Also present were Willem Trienekens, Lex Roolvink and Arnoud Strijbis, respectively honorary chairman, president and secretary general of the archery association.
In the nation’s tradition a federation, club or non-profit organisation can ask the King for a royal warrant, but it’s a long procedure.
Documents on board and staff members, budgets and reports, and referring to safety, security and protocols, were presented to the Netherlands Labor Authority, who then advised the King about the working situation of the federation.
Mandatory conditions to get the honorary title are: be leading in its field of expertise; have national importance; and be in existence for at least 100 years (in principle).
The Dutch Archery Federation was founded on 5 March 1922, and so celebrated its 100th anniversary in March 2023.
