Clement Secchi Wins Twice to Lead Missouri Past Purdue

Clement Secchi put up a pair of wins Saturday on the second day of a two-day dual as Missouri swept Purdue in Columbia.

The Missouri men more than doubled up Purdue, 233-115, and the women claimed a 206.5-139.5 decision, both pouring it on after building huge Day 1 leads.

Secchi led the way. He went 46.60 to win the 100 backstroke early in the second session. He faced a quick turnaround two events later but still bested the field in the 100 butterfly in 46.48.

Missouri swept the victories on Day 2. The distance contingent led an early 1-2-3 in the 1,000 free, with Jibran Himsieh winning in 9:22.00. Ben Louis and Thomas Joswiak followed him into the wall.

Kevin Hammer’s time of 20.20 was good enough to win the 50 free. Will Goodwin claimed the 200 breast, his time of 1:59.06 edging Purdue’s Coleman Modglin by .19 seconds, and Grant Bochenski claimed the 200 free in 1:37.67.

For Purdue, Nick Sherman was second in both the 50 free and 200 free. Jordan Rzepka scored 362.48 points on 3-meter to completed a springboard sweep.

The Missouri women swept all the individual events on the day. Macy Rink claimed the 1,000 free to start it off. Amy Feddersen and Grace Hanson went 1-3 in the 50 free, Feddersen winning in 22.83. Meredith Reese was quickest in the 100 back, followed by Katrina Brathwaite (200 breast), Taylor Williams (100 fly), Molly Gowans (200 free) and Malin Grosse (400 IM).

Missouri also won both women’s relays, with their only 400 free foursome entered and a 1-2 in the 200 medley in which the named B relay prevailed over the A squad.

The Boilermakers had a monopoly on second place on the day. The closest to a win was by Maggie Love in the 50 free with a time of 23.05. Kendra Bowen pushed Brathwaite in the 200 breast in finishing as the runner-up. The lone win came in diving, where Sophie McAfee won the 1-meter event with a result of 281.33.
