On Friday 27 January, the Sou do Esporte Award once again recognised the table tennis federation as the best in 2022. It is their third consecutive title – CBTM had already won in 2019 and 2021.
An ITTF Member Association since 1947, the CBTM continues to set an example on the importance of having a solid and well-structured governance. The Sou do Esporte Award evaluates each of the Brazilian sport federations every year on several criteria that includes transparency, which was another aspect that CBTM were recognised for under the Equity – Best Practices category.
During the Award ceremony, at the Bandsports studios, in São Paulo, the president of CBTM and Executive Vice President of the International Table Tennis Federation, Alaor Azevedo, spoke about the changes implemented in recent years and recognised the fundamental importance of former director Geraldo Campestrini in the entity’s modernisation process.
“I am very proud of this third award and I hope to work more and more to improve the governance of Brazilian sport. We are collaborating with the International Table Tennis Federation, so that we can improve the governance of table tennis globally. We are going to work to increasingly improve our statute and governance as a whole.” Alaor Azevedo
CBTM has been among the Top 5 of Brazilian sports federations for the seventh time, consistently achieving prominent positions in all editions of the Sou do Esporte Award. It started in the fifth position in the first edition in 2015, and steadily improved its governance ranking, ultimately achieving the top spot in 2019.
The ITTF is committed to promoting good governance at every level to ensure a bright future for table tennis globally. It is encouraging to see the Brazilian table tennis federation take the lead in this aspect and reflects their dedication to upholding the highest standards within the organisation.
The Sou do Esporte Award is the sole recognition of governance in sports in Latin America and holds international recognition from the Danish organisation Play The Game. It operates as a non-profit network connecting athletes, sports organisations, government entities, and the private sector. The award prioritises ethics, transparency, collaboration, and accountability to oneself and others as core values.
